Know Everything About Cotton - The Most Preferred Fabric
Cotton is the
commonly used and in fact makes about 50% of clothing
fiber around the world; emerging as the most important material
for apparel. Cotton is comfortable, durable, attractive and proven
fabrics that have unique features and properties and make it a great
material for designer clothes.
Physical
characteristics of cotton include the fineness and the length of the
fiber. Cotton fibers differ in length- from half inch to 2 inches.
Longer length of the fiber is associated with higher quality and is
more expensive. Longer fibers are usually reserved for high end shirt
fabrics. Shirt of this long fiber cotton include Egyptian,
Sea Island Cottons and American
Pima. Cotton fineness valued by the fiber's diameter is another
important quality. There are mature and immature fibers. Most
manufacturers separate the mature from the immature fibers to ensure
high durability and reliability.
Feature of
absorbency makes cotton as comfortable as an outfit in hot weather.
It has a quality to absorb the moisture and then allows it to
evaporate by passing through the fabric. This way body is kept cool
and able to regulate its temperature. Cotton's ability to hold the
fabric slightly off and less pressure on the skin provides maximum
comfort than other fabrics in hot weathers. That's' why cotton is so
widely worn in hotter countries, like Gulf. This strength of cotton
is a weakness in cold weather. Since cotton is not good in retaining
body's heat, so are not preferred in winters.
Cotton's
clothing is difficult to retain its original shape and has a
tendency to wrinkle and does not hold their shape well. A cotton
dress usually requires a lot of ironing. But be assured of the fabric
that will remain intact. Cotton clothing can be washed with strong
detergents, only thing is with the loss of its color during washing.
Cotton is resistant to moths as well. |
